I recently traveled to Arcadia Farm in Alexandria, VA, to help them showcase part of their education efforts, as well as to cover a visit by honorary board member and First Lady of Virginia Dorothy McAuliffe. The images you see here only capture a fraction of the amazing work going on at Arcadia; not only do they provide hands-on food & farm education to children, but they also train veterans for careers in sustainable agriculture, as well as provide fresh vegetables to under-served urban areas via their Mobile Market. The farm is situated on George Washington's historic Woodlawn estate - just spending a few hours there alongside their wonderful + dedicated team was hugely inspiring for me, and I hope to be able to make a trip back with my own boys to volunteer in the Groundhog Garden as a family soon. It's crazy to realize I grew up minutes from here, but didn't discover it long after I'd moved away. I am so grateful for the opportunity to help highlight the incredible, important work going on here, and the idea of using photography to support non-profit causes near and dear to my own heart is beyond fulfilling.
If you happen to be in or near Northern Virginia, please consider donating your time or financial support to keep their efforts going - I promise you won't regret it.
